For this piece I used clay as my medium to make a scooped leaf. I used a slab and then took a leaf, cut out the shape of the leaf and let the shape of the lead sink into a bowl. Using the bowl made the leaf a dish where I could use for many things, such as a jewlery dish. The shape of the leaf and the lines staying intact was a definite success. I woukd probably keep the stick part of the leaf if i were to do this project again because I feel as if a part is missing. Mrs. Sudkamp inspired me to do this piece because this was one of the demos and I really liked the idea.

For this mini piece it was the first time really working with clay in this class. I enjoyed this project and working with ckay but i did face some difficulties. I do not think I was successful with this project because i was attempting to do the rainbow fish where there are different colored scales. I realized after starting this project that the scales would be too tiny to do scales a bunch of different colors, thus making it unsuccessful. I chose Calvin Nicholls for my artist that inspired me due to the pieces that he his able to make. Nicholls makes 2D and 3D pieces of work out of various paper components while using X-ACTO knives, scapels, and scissors in order to make various animals. To make these kind of pieces of work, one needs to be accurate, patient, and have precision. The way he is able to make the artwork so believable and real just amazes me. Some pieces of his work can take up to weeks or even years which only shows Nicholls dedication to his art that much more. I think I was successful in my piece of styrogami. I made an ice cream cone and think I was successful due to the piece looking like an ice cream cone. 1. At the beginning of the year I just believed that artwork was created due to imagination. Now I realize that art is a form of expression. Artists use their time in creating their piece of artwork to portray the way they're feeling and express themselves. Its a healthy way to release one's feelings and express every aspect of a situation they are in. 3. At first when I was asked about a gray area in art I believed that there wasn't one. Throughout this semester and completing projects, i've realized that there is a gray area. In art you can take someone's idea but you can make it your own by adding things and tweaking things. Doing it that way would be changing it so you wouldn't be copying but your still getting a foundation from someone else. 4. When artist's made art I just thought that was their way of expressing themselves. I never believed that they could use their talent for a social aspect until I thought about streetart. The meaningful kind of streetart that sends a message is also another reason artists make art. They can send a message with this art thats free for anyone to see and then makes people rethink their views and actions. 5. In the beginning of the year when I was asked what artist's style was, I believed that it was the form of art you used. I believed that if you used clay or photography, or watercolor that was your artist's style. I now know artist's style is the way you use each of those things. That way people would know thats coming from you. They purpose of destroying this piece of art was that dreams don't always come true or happen the way that you expect them too. You can't just sit around hoping that your dreams will come true, you need to go out and make them happen. I was inspired by Picasso's painting of the flowers because when I looked at it the theme that popped out to me was sharing v. fighting. We don't know whether Picasso was trying to depict in this painting if somebody was sharing their flowers with someone else, or if that other person was taking the flowers from someone else. Due to this piece of artwork, I was inspired to make my own that told someone elses story. In my piece of artwork a girl with no face which is of no real identification is being pulled two different ways by two different significant others. In my mind I think of a child whose parents are going through a divorce and fighting over this girl. In the background her thoughts and feelings are being put out with highlights in different regions of the artwork. How is this artwork about who you are or what you like? This artwork represents who i am because i'm talking about my dreams in this art piece. My dreams gives a clue about the type of person i am & what my interests are. Describe the project idea. The project idea is making a poster where people can come up & write their dreams on a poster that we will be hanging up around the school. Who are you collaborating with? I'm working with Katie, Megan, Kenzie, Kenzie, Peyton, & Cameron on this project. My role is overseeing & helping spray paint & cut out the piece to make this project work. Describe what the final piece of artwork will look like. The final piece of artwork will have spray painted words saying "what is your dream" with another phrase saying "my dream is" continuously across the page. All in orange/pink spray paint This week I started a project based on limitation. I am drawing a tree that I remember seeing in my dream. The problem with this limitation is that the dream can be foggy and in most parts I am making up what the tree looks like based on some parts that I know what it looks like. Did you gain skills with familiar materials? I gained skills with familiar materials such as a canvas & paintbrush that I know better to control & make it work the way i want it too. |
